On December 11, Okayama University and the National University of Asunción (Republic of Paraguay) signed an inter-university agreement to promote education and research, and foster exchange between students and faculty through a mutually close and organized partnership. This is the first agreement signed by Okayama University with a university in Paraguay.
The signing ceremony, held at the National University of Asunción, was attended by President NASU Yasutomo of Okayama University, President Zully Vera and Vice President Miguel Torres of the National University of Asunción, and Chargé d'Affaires ad interim MIURA Katsuhito from the Embassy of Japan in Paraguay. Approximately 40 attendees, including representatives from the local branch of Hagihara Industries, a company in Okayama Prefecture collaborating with the university's School of Engineering, witnessed the signing of the agreement by both university presidents. President Vera stated, "This agreement will deepen the ties between our universities and will be a new opportunity for excellent exchange activities, not only for students and faculty but also for Paraguay. We hope to strengthen cultural exchanges in addition to education and research." President Nasu commented, "I am confident the relationship between our two universities and our countries will deepen. We look forward to creating a new future together."
During his visit to Paraguay, President Nasu toured the National University of Asunción’s affiliated hospital and discussed with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Overseas Cooperation Volunteers. The signing of this agreement, along with the visits to relevant institutions, marks the beginning of formal educational and research exchanges. We also hope to expand into broader exchange activities, including collaborations with the local industrial community. Furthermore, we will actively promote exchange programs with other South American countries.
