2024 Japan-China Friendship University Student Delegation Returns Home; Achievement Report Held at the Consulate General

October 04, 2024

From September 3 to 8, 2024, nine students and one faculty member from Okayama University participated in the "Japan-China Friendship University Student Delegation," organized by the Consulate General of China in Osaka. The delegation visited Xi'an and Baoji in Shaanxi Province, where participants had the unique opportunity to explore significant historical sites, including the Terracotta Warriors, Xi'an City Wall, Qinglong Temple, and Wuzhangyuan Zhuge Liang Temple. They also engaged with students from Xidian University and experienced cutting-edge technologies such as AI at local companies.

On September 20, following their visit, an achievement report meeting was held at the Consulate General. Students from Okayama University, Kyoto University, Osaka University, Hiroshima University, Fukuyama City University, and Doshisha University shared their experiences. Consul General XUE Jian and Counselor NIE Ruilin, along with other consulate officials and international staff from participating universities, attentively listened to the presentations. Afterward, Consul General Xue emphasized the importance of direct engagement, stating, "Hearing a hundred times is not as effective as thinking once; and thinking a hundred times is not as effective as taking action," highlighting the role of proactive exchanges in fostering mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and China.

KOZASA Kotaro, a second-year student in the School of Economics, who participated in the delegation, expressed, "By setting foot in China and interacting with local people, I gained insights into aspects of the country that I could never fully understand from Japan. This experience made me acutely aware of the influence of preconceived notions. I aim to share what I’ve learned with others and believe that such individual transformations are crucial for the future of Japan-China relations."

OBAYASHI Junko, Associate Professor at the Institute of Global Human Resource Development and leader of the delegation commented, "Experiencing the historical weight of Japan-China exchanges, where the Kentoshi envoys risked their lives to study in Chang’an (Today’s Xi’an), at the same time, witnessing the evolution of modern China's advanced technologies, provided invaluable insights to our students. The opportunity of the direct dialogue with numerous Chinese individuals was particularly meaningful, especially in today’s context."

The Institute of Global Human Resource Development remains committed to nurturing students with a global perspective, fostering an understanding of diverse cultures and values. We will continue to offer various international exchange opportunities to cultivate individuals capable of thriving in a globalized world.
