Greetings from the Dean of the School of Dentistry
Okayama University consists of 10 faculties, 7 graduate schools and one program and is executing integrative education and research activities over arts and sciences based on its own comprehensive idea. Therefore, through multiple types of entrance exams including the general entrance exam, school recommendation type entrance exam, entrance exam for foreign students, international bachelor entrance exam and exam for the 5 years course for bachelors, we welcome diverse and unique individuals as students.
Our aim is to educate dentists and dental scientists at the highest level over the world, emphasizing the importance of providing state-of-art dental care and of exploring the frontier in dental medicine. Namely, we not only train students to dentists who dedicate themselves to oral health in the local community, but also develop practical human resources with outstanding abilities in academic affairs, research, administrative works and international activities. For this purpose, we are always renovating the educational curriculum. In fact, we have employed project-based and active learning methods for growing practical skills required for dentists in the next generation. Furthermore, we are developing a new educational program in cooperation with local dental associations. Under the close cooperation with our Medical School, Pharmaceutical School and University Hospital, we are also engaged in training dentists with a broad perspective, who are able to deal with the super-aging society, by enhancing the educational programs in multidisciplinary cooperation, medical support, and perioperative management .
We find international exchange and collaboration very important. Okayama University Dental School short-term study-abroad program for undergraduate students (ODAPUS) has a history of longer than 20 years, during which more than 200 students experienced the life and study in foreign countries. We are accepting visitors from these countries as well. By mutually communicating with students from diverse countries in person, practical skills that enable global activities are nourished. Last year, we accepted as many as 38 foreign undergraduates.
After graduation, comprehensive clinical training program in the dental division of the Center for Graduate Medical Education, Okayama University Hospital is ready for you. Besides, we launched 2 new degree programs in our graduate school last year; one is a program for clinical specialists, whereas the other is for global researchers. As such, our educational system perfectly supports your post-graduate career development.
